Tassie's forests abound with little wonders. The mostly cool, temperate climate with frequent rainfall created beautiful moss- and lichen-covered woodlands, providing home for a myriad of critters. We came across this Tasmanian Wombat in the middle of the Weindorfer forest, deep in central Tasmania's Cradle Valley. To not scare the little fella off too quickly, I laid down on the forest floor, just waiting for whatever might happen. To my delight, it was curiously coming closer, constantly sniffing around – and running right into me. It was amazing to have such an up-and-close encounter with the first Wombat I've ever met.
