We've always dreamed of coming close to lions in the wild (maybe not too close, though...)! We visited the famous Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe, because this was supposed to be one of the rare places in Africa where you could actually see lions on a self-drive safari. Even better, they allow you to stay at an unfenced campsite in the middle of the park! It didn't take long until we met these two lion brothers just a couple of 100m away from where we pitched our tent – little did we know that one of them was paying the campsite a visit later that day with his missus, bringing the camping life to an unexpected standstill for more than an hour. Of course, they finally decided to retreat by leaving the campground exactly next to our site – I'll never forget the feeling I had when we watched the powerful King of Mana Pools gently walking by on the other side of our truck.
